Learning Goals & Objectives
Faith and Values
Students will explore their faith and learn strong moral values through age appropriate lessons and hands on projects. Pre-Kindergarten children attend mass on the first Friday of every month.
Social-Emotional Development
Children will grow in self-confidence through age-appropriate isolated, parallel and interactive play. At the beginning of the year Pre-Kindergarten students will work together to help establish class rules and routines as well as contribute to classroom responsibilities.
Mathematics & Science Readiness
Students will develop a strong number, geometric and spatial sense of the world around them through class discussion and hands on projects. Measurement, comparison and classification will be explored through the use of observation and other senses.
Language Arts & Reading Readiness
Students will become skilled at letter knowledge, phonological awareness and listening comprehension as well as develop a motivation to read common sight words. An awareness of rhyming will be developed along with the understanding of common position words and opposite pairs.
Motor Development
Fine and gross motor skills will be enhanced through various projects and activities. Students will be encouraged to create original works of art through the use of several different mediums and techniques. Outdoor activities will give children appropriate opportunities to grow and develop through play.
Speaking Skills
Through class discussions children will be given the chance to participate in reciprocal conversations, respond logically to questions asked and learn to wait ones on turn when speaking in a group.
Practical Skills
Students will take pride in themselves as they learn to write their first and last name and have the ability to recite their birthday, home address and phone number. Important safety rules will be discussed as well as the importance of taking care of oneself.
